I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)
The song 500 miles by The Proclaimers is a pretty deal in the United Kingdom, even more so in Scotland. They've become legends of the Scottish music scene and especially with students up and down the country.
All together now..."Aaaaaand I would walk 500 miles, aaaaaand I would walk 500 more"...what a tune!
For those that have been under a rock for the last 20 years, The Proclaimers are two identical twin brothers, reigning from Leith, as Scotland's triumphant contribution to the world of popular music.
Ever popular at functions with a disco, this song lives on as The Proclaimer's most successful song. It's catchy!
Have you heard of the Proclaimers before?
Who Are The Proclaimers?
Identical twins Charlie and Craig Reid, are probably best known for their songs Letter from America, I'm On My Way and I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles). Having grown up in Leith and Edinburgh (Scotland), they shot to fame after being given the opportunity to tour with Brit band The Housemartins, which gave them enough exposure so that they were invited to perform on Channel 4's The Tube, giving them an indie, alternative following.
To date, they have released eight studio albums, plus two compilation albums as well as a DVD. They also have another album on the way (2012)...dedicated Proclaimers fans wait in anticipation!

Why Have I Made This Page?
"...and I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more"
I belong to the Squidoo facebook group and we're nearly at 1000 members. In celebration of this, the admins have created a challenge, for everyone to submit a lens that is to do with "1000". Of course, having very close Scottish family, and having heard this song countless times at their parties...this had to be the one. Walking 500 miles, then 500 more, is of course 1000 miles.
Probably the best homage to the Proclaimers "I'm Gonna Be" that there is!

The Proclaimers and Weddings...
This song always seems to be played at weddings (especially up north in Scotland haha). I've heard some great renditions of the song, and have danced the night away when it comes on at the end of the night. Here are a selection of videos where the song has been used in weddings. Check out the first video, the version sung is absolutely beautiful and really accentuates the gorgeous lyrics.
